Governor Crist Signs JLA Reform Into Law!

Governor Charlie Crist, with Senator Nancy Argenziano and members of Associated Builders and Contractors watching on, signed the Jessica Lunsford Reform Act (SB 988) on June 20th, 2007, the culmination of two years of hearings, input and hard work to improve the legislation. ABC of Florida led the effort to improve the Jessica Lunsford Act, as evident by our presence at the signing ceremony, and we wish to thank Governor Crist and especially former Senator Nancy Argenziano for her efforts to improve this legislation.

Gulf Coast Chapter Hits Capitol Hill

The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter spent the week in Washington D.C. lobbying for commerical construction. We also gave out eagle awards to our the members of Congress who supported us last year. ABC National Chairman Visits Gulf Coast Chapter

ABC National Chairman David Myer made a visit to ABC's Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. David spoke to the chapter's board of directors and discussed the importance of membership growth and involvement. He also stressed the importance of training and the merit shop construction philosophy.

GC Tabletops Generate Record Attendance!

ABC held two GC Tabletops this week! Over 1000 people came to the events in Tampa and Estero, Florida. This was a great networking event for subcontractors, suppliers and assoicates to market their companies to the General Contractors.

ABC's Don Hartle Becomes Safety Director

Don Hartle has recently accepted our new position as Safety Director for our chapter. Most everyone knows Don as our Director of Education, which began back in October of 2001. His extensive construction background has be a valuable service to us all over the past years; however, he also brings vast knowledge from the past as a former Safety Director as well.

ABC Hires Connie Cowan As Education Director

The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter has hired Connie Cowan as Education Director. “ABC is extremely excited to have Connie as a part of our organization.” said Steve Cona (ABC Chapter President/CEO).

Connie brings extensive experience in training programs comparable to our chapter’s Apprenticeship program and our Management Training programs.
